Defence SA Advisory Board provides high-level advice to the Government of South Australia on strategy and policy required to deliver defence industry and facility growth in South Australia.

General Peter Cosgrove

General Peter Cosgrove AC MC has been appointed Chairman of Defence SA Advisory Board.

General Cosgrove served in the Australian Army from 1965 and was the Chief of the Australian Defence Force from July 2002 until his retirement in July 2005.

He was in command of the international forces in East Timor from 1999 until the force was withdrawn in February 2000, for which General Cosgrove was appointed a Companion of the Military Division of the Order of Australia.

General Cosgrove is currently the Vice-Chairman of the Australian Rugby Union, a Director of Cardno Limited and a member of the QANTAS board. He is a consultant to Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu and a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

General Cosgrove was Australian of the Year in 2001.
