学院不断加强国内外学术交流与合作，与英、美、日领事馆，重庆外事局等单位保持了友好合作关系；与日本信州大学、日本广岛文化学园大学签订了留学生交换协议，与日本外务省建立了重庆市唯一的公共交流平台“中日交流之窗”；联合开办了10余个学生国外实习实训项目，如史迪威Work & Travel短期实习项目、史迪威美国名校夏令营项目、中国澳大利亚大商会学生实习项目等。另外，学院先后承担教育部、重庆市、香港田家炳等各类英语教师培训项目30余次，为重庆地区外语教师的职后培养做出了贡献。(2020-04更新）
Founded in 1972, the School of Foreign Languages and Literatures(hereafter as the School) of Chongqing Normal University (hereafter as CNU)was, previously known as the Department of Foreign Languages of Chongqing Normal College and then changed to the current name in 2001. Over the last 46 years of development, it has grown into a large school offering postgraduate-, undergraduate- and part-time adult-training programs, with a strong faculty team in terms of their academic degrees, professional titles and ages. At present, there are 125 faculty members, including 11 professors, 35 associateprofessors, 25 doctors (another 6 PhD candidates), 26 MA supervisors and 22 part-time MA supervisors. 15 teachers have been recommended as either academicleaders of Chongqing Municipality, middle-aged cadre teachers of ChongqingHigher Education, or members of Chongqing social sciences expert pool. Morethan 85% of cadre teachers of the School have earned their degrees, lectured,or studied as visiting scholars overseas. In addition, the School hires 6domestic and international guest professors, and 9 part-time doctors under theOverseas Talents Program of the University. During the 2016 fourth-roundacademic discipline assessment by the Ministry of Education of China, the School’s first-level discipline “Foreign Languages and Literatures” was rankedClass C, among the top 50% to 60% of the 163 participating institutions nationwide. And our first-level discipline, including 4 branches like Englishlanguage and literature, linguistics and applied linguistics, Japanese languageand literature, translation and interpreting, has been successfully selected asthe key discipline of Chongqing’s 12thand 13thFive-YearPlans, and as the 1st-level unit to grant master degree. Both inChongqing and nationwide, our discipline has enjoyed a relatively long historyand a good reputation with its academic foundation, high academic level andsocial impact. Since its first MA program in English teaching and research in 1999, it offers some 8 MA research orientations, including linguistic studies,literary studies, translation studies, teaching and research, language testing,stylistics, cultural studies, and Japanese language and culture. In addition, it has been authorized to grant Med. and MIT degrees since 2006 and 2010 respectively. Currently, there are over 1,500 full-time undergraduates majoringin English, Japanese, translation and Sinhalese, 235 full-time MA candidatesand over 130 part-time MA candidates.
The School consists of a few departments and offices, such as the English Dept., the Japanese Dept., the Translation Dept., the Sinhalese Dept., the Graduate Teaching Division, College English Teaching Division, Student Affairs Office, and the External Exchange and Training Office. The School is armed with adequate facilities with 3 reference rooms, 10 city-levelor university-level teaching and research quality projects, 6 university-level scientific research platforms (East African Research Center recorded by the Ministry of Education of China), 15 interpreting labs and language labs, and over 20 Internship bases for English education majors and translation majors jointly built by the university and enterprises, and abundant printed or online teaching and research resources at home and abroad.
The School has entered a new stage in scientific research inrecent years, with its faculty members hosting 7 National Social Science programs, 4 ministerial-level programs and over 60 provincial-level programs,and having published over 60 high-quality academic papers in major domestic andinter national journals like A & HCI, CSSCI, etc., and over 60 monographs,translated books and textbooks.
The School constantly expands its domestic and international academic exchanges and cooperation, maintaining close ties with the British Consulate, the American Consulate, the Japanese Consulate, and the Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Chongqing. It has signed student exchange agreements with Shinshu University and Hiroshima Bunka Gakuen University ofJapan, and built the “Window for Sino-Japan Cultural Exchanges” with theJapanese Foreign Ministry. Moreover, through cooperation with relevant parties, it jointly sets up more than 10 overseas internship programs for students, such as Stilwell Work & Travel short-term internship program, Stilwell SummerCamp, China-Australia Chamber of Commerce student internship program, etc. Besides, the School has undertaken over 30 training programs for English teachers sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Chongqing Municipality and TinKa Ping of Hong Kong, contributing to the post-service education of foreign language teachers in Chongqing.
